News from TSD…

Hi, everyone – just a couple of reminders to carry us through the end of the year. Our annual ‘Diag-Rama’ will happen on Friday, April 11 at 1:00 in the auditorium and sign-up sheets are available – please ask a TSD member for that.

Also, the Hampton University Department of Architecture Annual Awards night will take place on Tuesday, April 29 starting at 7:00 pm in Phenix Hall. This is a nicely planned event that will include studio awards given by our faculty recognizing excellence in student design, AIAS awards and the TSD Silver and Bronze Medal Awards as well. The fifth year studio’s Best Thesis will be awarded publicly this year which has not happened in quite a while at HU. In all, it is the intent that this event will become the precedent for future Architecture Department annual award ceremonies. That said please mark your calendars appropriately! A short ‘Meet and Greet’ with hors d’oeuvres will begin at 7:00 pm and the awards ceremony to follow at 7:30. The attire is business casual and no jeans or sneakers please. This is your chosen major and your colleague’s excellent work being celebrated – please come and support YOUR architecture department.

Congratulations and a big WELCOME! to our new Iota Alpha chapter brothers and sisters. Mark, Kris, Don, Eboni, Mitchell, Katrina and Paige, all from that awesome third year studio, were inducted last Wednesday and are now full members of TSD. Way to go guys and girls!!

Hey! All you talented architectural-type folks roaming around Bemis day-in and day-out, here’s a way to show your stuff and get some free grub in the process! It’s time for TSD’s second annual Diag-Rama where students team-up to diagrammatically represent specific themes as selected and judged by our Professors and a few guest faculties. All students enrolled in the Architectural program are encouraged to participate. There will be prizes to win and free food to be eaten not to mention a guaranteed good time for all. Please mark your calendars and make it a point to join us on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 1:00 – 2:00 pm in Bemis Auditorium.

Just as a reminder for all current and alumni TSD members or anyone who cares to attend; the induction ceremony for our new TSD candidates will be held on March 12, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the top floor of DuBois Hall. Please refer to tausigmadelta.blogspot.com for further details regarding this, our upcoming, memorable event. We encourage our new inductees to invite their family members and friends in support of this honored milestone in their career paths.

LOCAL VIRGINIA PRIZE AWARDS

Hardy congratulations to our fellow TSD members from the rest of Iota Alpha Chapter for the overwhelming majority win in the Hampton University's Virginia Prize competition. TSD members took five of the eight awards with first place to boot!! Those members were Nikk (5th year), Smitty (1st place – 4th year), Carmen (4th year) and two members from our sister TSD chapter -Beta Chi at Tuskgegee University, Alana (4th year) and Terry (4th year). Good luck in the State competition!

Attention Third Year Studio and up – our president, Tracie Sansavera, has received the invitations for this year’s TSD induction ceremony. As you may or may not know Architecture students in the spring of their Third year studio and up are eligible for candidacy. The basic requirements are a minimum 3.0 GPA and that the prospective inductee is in the top 20 percentile of his or her overall class, not just studio. Our induction program is scheduled for March 12 and those who are involved will be advised of the particulars. Tracie will be seeking you out beginning tomorrow during afternoon studio so congratulations to those of you who made the cut and be on the alert!! – She lurks at every corner.
